What I like about the Fit Bit vs. the less expensive models is that it works so well. It has a gyroscope in it, which increases the accuracy. It even will log my steps on the elliptical.

Also, on the web site, you can have friends and see how many steps they have. This way, you and your friends can encourage and motivate (or compete with 🙂 each other.

Price is the main down side, but it has been a good investment in my health for me. If anyone decides to get a fitbit, let me know so that we can be “friends” on their site.

Has anyone found other pedometers or other health/fitness related gadgetry that works well and is less expensive? Having an alternative would be nice, too.

These sound very interesting to me. Sometimes I’m not sure I want something telling me how much I haven’t moved, though 😉 One of my workout partners won a Fit Flex (I think that is what it is called) that you wear on your wrist. Does the same thing. They are expensive though.

Soooo, is it called a Fit Flex? I don’t think I need help while sleeping. I do use an Omron Pedometer and I probably can make it keep track of other things besides steps and aerobic steps. So, Maxi and Jana, where on your body is your FitBit? Arm? Wrist?

Darcy, I know what you mean about having something telling you when you haven’t moved enough. I have a Wii Fit, and it not only tells me how many days it’s been since I last used it, but also makes snarky comments. For example, on the balance exercises, it sometimes calls me “unbalanced.” It’s pretty bad when your electronics insult you.

What I have is the FitBit Zip. It has a clip that can be fastened anywhere to your clothes. It is small so it can even be carried in your pocket. I clip mine to my bra strap. The more expensive model is the Flex. It comes with a wristband. There is also one for $’130 called a Force. I’m not sure how it differs. You can look at them at http://www.fitbit.com.
