Meet Sharon, Our Newest TOPS
Welcome Sharon!
Our TOPS chapter welcomes a new member, Sharon Delaware. Sharon has been around the world, and we are glad that she has found her way to Stillwater and our chapter. Read about her journeys, below.
Meet Sharon
Sharon was born in Kentucky and grew up in West Virginia. Her father was a coal miner and her mother was a house wife. She graduated high school in 1964 and went to work for the U.S. Dept of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. She took an assignment to the American Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. When she returned to D.C., she had plans to attend college and was able to do that on a part-time basis for several years. She transferred to the Treasury Dept. and worked overseas at the American Embassy in London, U.K. for one tour of duty. Upon return, she met her husband, Bob, and had their daughter. At that time, she transferred to the Central Intelligence Agency where she was able to work part-time in order to spend more time as a mom. Her husband planned to retire from his government job with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1993 when their daughter was 12 years old. Fortunately, Sharon was able to take an early retirement and they moved to Prescott, Arizona in July 1993. She continued to work part-time for the school system until their daughter graduated high school. They moved to OK in late 2000 to be near her husband’s family (due to illness) and returned to AZ in June 2005, where they planned to live out their lives. Their daughter finished college in AZ, met her husband and brought him here to meet the extensive family. “He fell in love with the state and they made plans to move here, but would not leave us behind,” says Sharon. Sharon and her family all moved to Stillwater in Sep 2012. Sharon and her husband are devoted to their 21-month-old grandson, and they see him often. They attend the Crosspointe Free Will Baptist church where they sing in a small group and are making new friends.
Way to Go, Losers!

Contrats to all!
Are We Going to the Dogs?
Meet Bert and Patty’s Dog, Buddy
I’d like everyone to meet Bert and Patty’s new dog, Buddy. Bert and Patty rescued Buddy after he was abandoned in a building for two months with no heat. He is about 2 years old and cute as a button!
| Meet Jana’s Dogs, Athena and NanoJana’s dogs, Athena and Nano, are a handful! Athena is an 8 year old Miniature Pinscher. Her favorite hobbies are hunting and napping. |
| Jana’s Chin Pin, NanoNano, which is short for Nanosecond, is an approximately 3 year old Miniature Pinscher/Chihuahua mix. We say that he is a designer dog breed: a Chin Pin. He was rescued from a puppy mill and brought to Stillwater Animal Control, where we adopted him. His favorite hobbies are playing “chase the laser pointer” and relaxing with my husband, Gene, in the recliner. |
| Meet Darcy’s Dog, Muddy
This is Darcy’s dog, Muddy, wearing a “cone of shame.” Heal quickly, Muddy! |
Let Us Meet Your Pet!
Do you have a dog or cat? How about a bird, iguana, turtle, frog, fish, or favorite pet rock? We want to meet your pets! E-mail me a pic and short bio about your pet. For example, be sure to include the pet’s name, favorite hobbies, and any short anecdotes.
What Does that Number on the Scale Mean?
How Important is the Number on the Scale?
Do you have a healthy relationship with your bathroom scale? As stated on the left, the scale only reports a number, but we are much more than a number.
We live, breathe, work, play, and have successes and losses. We are wonderful and we are fallible. We laugh, cry, and pick ourselves up from our bootstraps.
While the scale can be a useful way to keep us on track toward our weight loss goals, we must keep the results in perspective. The number on the scale does not measure all of our achievements nor does it measure our value as a person. It is a number.
What is Your Relationship with Your Scale?
I have a love-hate relationship with my scale. Sometimes I let my mood for the whole day be dictated by one readout that morning. This only compounds my problems of controlling my diet. What is your relationship like? If your answer isn’t listed, be sure to comment!
Thanks, Patty, for finding such a great image!
Goodbye Jennifer
This week was Jennifer’s last meeting with our chapter. She is moving to Arkansas and will join another chapter there. The Arkansas chapter may not know it yet, but they are getting a great TOPS member who I am sure will bring great ideas, a bright smile, and lots of laughs to their chapter like she to does ours. We wish you and your husband well in your travels and future endeavors. We’ll miss you, Jennifer!
P.S., If you are ever in Stillwater, be sure to stop by. We’d love to know how you’re doing.
TOPS Goes Bottoms Up
Thanks, Betty M, for the “snowmen.” It really gave me a chuckle. How creative!
In case you can’t read the text in the photo, here is what it says;
Money is scarce and times are hard.
So I’m giving you this instead of a card.
Something to use, something to share,
So bottoms up, just ’cause I care.
Merry Christmas
