Congratulate Karen and Gayle on being this week’s TOPS and KOPS best losers! Great job, y’all. Success inspires success, so thanks for leading the way.
Meeting Highlights, 11-7-13
The 11-7-13 TOPS meeting was called to order by Bert.
18 TOPS, 1 KOPS, and 1 visitor, Cecilia Avers, were present.
November state and area newsletters were read by Bert. Here are the highlights:
- The next Fun Day will be hosted by the Blackwell chapter with the theme “Old Time Movies.” The date is January 25, 2013, and a back-up date, in case of inclement weather, is February 8, 2013
- The spring Fun Day will be hosted by the Stillwater morning chapter with the theme “Here Comes the Bride.”
The pirate coins were explained in the state newsletter. Different Fun Day activities are worth different amounts of coins. For example:
- 5 coins for a full costume
- 3 coins for attending Fun Day
- 1 coin for
- Walking 50 miles
- Exercising 25 hours
- 90-95 days of keeping food charts
- Perfect attendance
- All black (no weight gains) for the quarter
The coins will be handed out at Fun Days until SRD, which is May 23-24 in OKC. “Pirates” is the theme. At SRD, certain items will be available for “purchase” with the coins.
Program: Tammy told us about her encounter with a car jacker and brought it to our attention that bad things happen to real people, even in our small community.
Jessie Has Reached a New Low!
This week, Jessie hit a grand slam, by being this week’s best TOPS and fresh weight loser. Way to go Jessie!
Although we didn’t have a meeting last week, we did have best losers. Jana was the TOPS best loser and Wilma was the fresh weight loser.
Be sure to congratulate all our best losers, and let’s give Jessie some competition this week!
Rockin’ Out the Awards
Work Hard, Play Hard
Just as we play hard at Fun Day, we work hard all quarter. Just ask our chapter members who were recognized at Fun Day.
Third Quarter 2013 Awards
Tammy and Wilma received awards for weight loss this quarter: 11 and 13 lbs, respectively. They also received SLIM bars/dangles. Great job!
Bert and Jessie were recognized for their leadership: Bert as Chapter Leader and Jessie as our Assistant Weight Recorder. Both Bert and Jessie have worked hard to keep our chapter running smoothly. We’ll miss you as Assistant Weight Recorder, Jessie, but thanks to you both for your hard work!
Norma and Maxi had Perfect Attendance this quarter and Jana received the Helping Hand award. Good job, y’all.
We’re Proud of You!
Congratulations to all our award winners! I’m sure that everyone will tell you that your success motivates and encourages us as we chip away to Take Pounds Off Sensibly!
Party Like a Rock Star at Fun Day
Rockin’ It Out at Fun Day
Seven Stillwater OK 0013 members attended the 3rd quarter 2013 Fun Day in Enid. A good time was had by all who went: Tammy, Jessie, Norma, Wilma, Bert, Jana, and Maxi. As with all Fun Days, there was a theme, and the theme this time was “Rock Star.” For any who haven’t been to a Fun Day, three things are of the utmost importance: 1) Meet someone new, 2) Be encouraging, and 3) Have fun. I think I all and all our chapter members who attended were able to complete these requirements successfully.
Fun Day Pics
Here are some pics of our chapter at fun day.
Rock On!
Thanks to our hosts in Enid for great time, good food, and a lot of encouragement and motivation.

- Jana and Maxi volunteered to make a poster for the 50/50 and use a rock star theme.
SRD: Pirate Cruises
- Maxi brought a pirate costume pattern (McCalls M4952), and some pieces she had sewn from it. It was suggested that Maxi bring the pattern back to a meeting sometime and anyone who wanted could make a pattern with tissue paper. That date is TBA, and anyone who wants to see the pattern sooner or won’t be able to make that meeting should contact Maxi.
- Update on SRD chapter shirts: Shirts will be polo type. The embroidery will cost $5 per shirt, and the contact from the t-shirt store said he would try to keep cost under $25 per shirt. Keep tuned for more details…
Great meeting this week, everyone. We appreciate all our officers’ and other members’ hard work.
Note: These are meeting highlights only and should not be used as a copy of the official minutes.
Water: Drink Yourself Healthy
Nothing Beats Water as a Drink to Your Health
This week (10-24-13), Jennifer presented us information about the health benefits of water.
Did You Know…
Jennifer told us that some interesting facts like the following:
- The human body is about 60 percent water.
- Dehydration affects many bodily processes.
- Humans can survive only about 1 week without water.
- We get only 80 percent of our water through liquids. The other 20 percent is obtained through food we eat.
- Some common causes of water loss include illness, and exercising, we as well as other factors.
TOPS 10 Reasons to Drink Water
- Water can replace higher calorie drinks
- Water helps suppress appetite. Sometimes we think we are hungry when we are actually thirsty.
- Water has no fat, calories, or sugar.
- Water is good for the heart. Some research has found that people who drink water are less likely to die from a heart attack.
- Water keeps up our energy and mood; thus you will be more likely to exercise.
- Water prevents headaches and migraines.
- Water aids the digestive system.
- Water cleans the body of toxins, which can be wastes that are natural byproducts of metabolism. The body metabolizes food more efficiently when these wastes are not present in high concentrations.
- Water reduces the risk of several types of cancer, including colon and bladder cancer.
- Water reduces fatigue while exercising.
How to Incorporate Water in Your Day
- Make drinking water a habit.
- Keep a water bottle with you.
- Drink water infused with fruit or other infused flavor for variety.
- Buy a filter. These can be purchase as a separate faucet on your sink or simply as a pitcher. Gallon for gallon, there is less cost and less work hauling cases of water from the store to your house.
Member Ideas
Darcy mentioned that she has a bead bracelet to remind her to drink water. During the day when she drinks water, she slides a bead. This helps her keep track of her water intake.
When Linda taught, she noticed that the students had difficulty getting enough water from the fountain at school. Thus, she would buy her students water bottles to refill.
Great job, Jennifer! You presented some important information to help us on our weight loss journey. Thanks!
Wilma has Reached a New Low Yet Again!
Congratulate Wilma and Darcy on being this week’s best losers! It takes a lot of dedication to achieve this, and I believe they have both been best losers more than once in the last few weeks. That’s quite an achievement. Way to go!
